AppleWorks* lovers will now get even moe from their best- selling integrated software package!
For starts, add mail merge to the list of the program's capabilities, which already include word processing, spreadsheet, and database applications.
And that's not all that's new from AppleWorks. The new enhanced version automatically loads into Apple memory expansion cards when you turn your system on. Which means that not only do you save time in starting the program, but it will run faster than ever before once you're in it.
Here's the scoop!
Taking advantage of the additional memory provided by the Apple memory expansion card, the new version gives you a larger desktop, and lets you work with bigger files. The larger desktop gives you fast access to up to 12 files at once. And the expanded files can handle word processing documents over 180 pages long, a database of 6350 records, or a spreadsheet with 10K per row!
And there's more. New spreadsheet features give you the power to perform more complex analyses, while at the same time giving you greater flexibility. The enhanced version of AppleWorks requires at least 128K of RAM, and runs on the AppleIIc, IIe, and IIGS*.
Current AppleWorks owners (versions 1.0 to 1.5) can upgrade to this new version by sending in a mailer available from any authorized Apple Dealer.
APPLE II FAMILY PORTRAIT
With the announcement of the Apple IIGS*, the other Apple(II family members become more important than ever before. While the Apple IIe and IIc are already familiar to most of you, here's a brief description of how each of these machines fits into the new family picture.
Apple IIe
Found in more schools, homes, and businesses than any other personal computer, the reliable Apple IIe has set a standard of excellence that will be with us for a long time to come. The IIe boasts the world's largest personal computer software library, providing users with over 10,000 software titles to choose from, . And it's the number one choice in America's schools today.
Expandability is the name of the Apple IIe's game. Equipped with 128K of memory, expandable to more than 1 megabyte, the IIe has a total of 7 expansion slots ready and waiting for additional accessories and peripherals. And there are literally hundreds of those available.
The Apple IIe's expandability assures a wide open path to the future. In fact, the IIe is so expandable that Apple IIe owners will be able to purchase an upgrade kit that will allow them to convert their IIe into an Apple IIGS. So if and when IIe owners decide they need the graphics, sound, and speed of the IIGS, that option will be ready and waiting.
Apple IIc
Affordable, packed with features, and known for its easy set up, the Apple IIc is a big value in a small package. And now there's even more to this small wonder! The enhanced Apple IIc, introduced this month, includes a redesigned logic board that accepts the new Apple IIc Memory Expansion Card, boosting the IIc's memory to over 1 megabyte. For those of you who already own a IIc and want to upgrade to more memory, Apple will be offering the Apple IIc Memory Expansion Kit.
So that's the new Apple II family portrait! Now more than ever, it's a family designed to cover the budget, power, and application-specific needs of a wide variety of personal computer users.
THE NEW APPLE IIGS
Apple's long-awaited addition to the Apple II family has officially arrived! The Apple IIGS*, unveiled this month, offers more power, more color, and higher performance than any other member of the Apple II family. This exciting new machine lets users take full advantage of all their powers of creativity , and we think you'll agree that computing with an Apple II has never been more fun!
In a nutshell, the Apple IIGS offers the best of both worlds. It combines all the best traits of the Apple II family--like tons of great software, expandability, and color--with the well-known advantages of
the Macintosh* computer--power, speed, graphics, and a mouse-driven interface.
Powered by a new 16-bit processor, the speed of the IIGS will knock your socks off! Not only does it run virtually all the Apple II software now available, but it does it almost three times faster than the IIe and IIc.
GS Stands for Graphics and Sound
With 256K of standard memory, expandable up to one full megabyte, the powerful IIGS can produce true-to-life, high resolution color graphics. With a total of 4,096 colors to work with, the IIGS will open up a whole new world of rich visual display and animation. And like the Macintosh, the IIGS incorporates "Quick Draw" graphics routines in ROM, giving it a graphics interface complete with pull-down menus, windows, and icons.
In addition, the IIGS incorporates a 32-oscillator chip that produces music, special effects, and even human voices with incredible realism.
IIGS Specifications

THE EARLY BIRD GETS THE WOZ!
Signed, sealed, and delivered.... Apple is designing a special signature edition of the Apple IIGS!
Signed by SteveWozniak, creator of the original Apple, this special edition will be available to those purchasing their IIGS before the end of 1986. In addition, when those purchasers return their product registration cards to Apple, they will receive a certificate of authenticity signed by the creators of the Apple IIGS
(while supplies last).
WIN AN APPLE IIGS
Five lucky Apple User Groups will win a complete Apple II GS system in a contest called "The Apple II Connection". Any group can enter. All your group has to do is:
1) invite people from outside your group to an October, November, or December group meeting, and
2) include a representative from any local Authorized Apple Dealership as a guest speaker at that meeting.
That's all there is to it. Then, your User Group Ambassador--the person in your group who receives correspondence from Apple--verifies this meeting to Apple, and--POW--you're in the running.
Five winners will be randomly selected in a blind drawing to be held in January of 1987. Look for the winners in the January issue of Apple QuickCONNECT. Who knows--you're group just may be one of the lucky winners!!
